“In Spain, it is not surprising to find extraordinary wines that come from places where the vineyards has been undervalued and looked at as a resource of survival. Without leaving their work in the winery in Rueda, Martina Prieto Pariente and her brother Ignacio, have been in search for old vineyards in Mucientes, Pedrosa del Rey and Valbuena de Duero in order to make three wines: the red wines El Origen de Prieto Pariente and Prieto Pariente, and the white wine Viognier de Prieto Pariente. All of them are of very high quality level, and as for the first one, of extremely high level.
The quality of the raw material is combined with an elaboration of precision (double selection of grapes by hand, separate fermentation, malolactic fermentation in oak, and ageing in French oak barrels, only 20% of them new).
It is not surprising that the wine excites with its elegant aroma, complex, rich in nuances of ripe but fresh fruit, harmonious accompaniment of spices, lightly toasted, and with a charming touch of balsamic herbs. Tasty and powerful, but of gentle discourse, illuminates in the mouth with the serene glow of the Paramos of the old Castile and León.”
